COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital women's soccer team put together a solid opening day performance, scoring three times to triumph over Heidelberg (0-1-1) 3-0 and get win number one of the season.

ON THE OFFENSIVE
  • The Crusaders offense came out firing on all cylinders, spending a great deal of time in the opponent's zone for the match.
  • Capital put up six shots in the opening minutes before junior Olivia Rotolo connected on a feed from junior Gabbi Viggiano to net the Crusaders first goal of the season in the 20th minute.
  • The Purple and White continued their offensive barrage of shots and the defense alternatively held Heidelberg to just one shot through the first 37 minutes.
  • In the 42nd minute Capital doubled the lead on a goal from sophomore Madeline Woodruff assisted by junior Holly Barlage to take the 2-0 advantage into the half.
  • Out of the half, the offenses largely leveled out for the first 20 minutes, prompting multiple substitutions for both sides.
  • That would change however, as in the 70th minute Woodruff found the back of the net for her second goal of the game to increase the Capital advantage to 3-0.
  • In the waning minutes, the Student Princes were able to get off a couple of shots but could not mount a challenge to the lead, resulting in a 3-0 Crusaders victory.
