COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team was unable to overcome Baldwin Wallace on Friday night, dropping a pair to the Yellow Jackets to move to 0-4 on the season. The Crusaders opened the evening losing in straight sets and were unable to shift the momentum in the second match, resulting in the same outcome.
MATCH 1 // 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-12)
The opening set started very competitive for Capital as they were able to stay within striking distance for much of the set. Junior
Miranda Jordan paced the team, tallying four of the team's nine kills in the first set. Baldwin Wallace began to pull away after back-to-back kills made the score 10-5 and while Capital was able to keep the Yellow Jackets from running away with it, they were unable to challenge through the end.
The Crusaders began the second set with a lot of momentum, taking the lead at 6-5 after an error by Baldwin Wallace but it would not hold as their opposition mounted an attack that Capital could not stop. The final two sets resulted in identical finals, 25-12, as the Yellow Jackets took the match 3-0.
MATCH 2 // 3-0 (25-10, 25-15, 25-9)
Match two was much of the same as the earlier bout with Baldwin Wallace rolling and Capital unable to respond. For the match, the Crusaders managed just 10 kills on 75 attacks as opposed to the Yellow Jackets who put together a .372 hitting percentage (41-86). Freshman
Audrey James converted on four attempts herself to pace the team, hitting .125.
Each set began with the teams even through the first 10 points before Baldwin Wallace was able to capitalize on mistakes and amass insurmountable leads to win the match in straight sets.
