Men’s Basketball Takes Care of Business with Huge Road Win

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Capital University men's basketball team had themselves a game on Friday night, defeating the John Carroll University Blue Streaks on the road by a score of 85-67. This would go down as Capital's first win over JCU in nearly three years, last defeating the Blue Streaks on January 12, 2019.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital was on top in this one from the very beginning, breaking out to a six-point lead to start the game and losing the lead only two times from there. Cap kept control of the game for nearly 39 of the 40 minutes played. The last of the Blue Streaks' leads came with 15:32 left in the first half. Following that brief two-point deficit, Capital put together a 13-0 run to take the game firmly in hand. They would outscore JCU 43-27 in the first half.

In the second period, the Capital defense stepped up to stave off multiple Blue Streak comeback attempts. Despite a closer competition in the second half, Capital was able to extend their lead even more. Mounting a final 7-0 run to slam the door, Cap outscored JCU 42-40 in the second half on the way to a 85-67 win.

THE NUMBERS
Freshman Dom Moegerle had a breakout game, leading all scorers with a career-high 21 points. His shooting was stellar, going 10-of-14 from the field, good for 71.4 percent. He also put up career numbers in rebounding (5), assists (2), steals (2), and blocks (1).

Junior Griffin Doseck cleaned the glass in a major way, pulling down a career-best 13 boards and a game-high for the category. This was the second half of a double-double as he also scored 10 points on 5-for-9 shooting.

Freshman phenom Alex Eyink continued his outstanding rookie campaign, dropping 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, hitting a career-high three three-pointers. He also dished out a career-best three assists and collected his first career block.

Sophomore David Sanford had a solid night with 12 points. He also grabbed two boards, dished out five dimes, and swiped the ball three times for a career-high in steals.

THE OPPONENT
The Blue Streaks had three players in double digits -- Jackson Sartain (14), Chase Toppin (13), and PJ Flannery (10).
