COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Capital University women's soccer team kept up their new-found winning ways on Wednesday evening as they ran out 1-0 winners over the visitors from Heidelberg University.
As they've done twice this season already,
Avery Hart and
Grace Estes combined for another Capital goal to lead the team to their third straight win. After going winless in their first seven matches, Capital (3-6-1, 2-0 OAC) has now defeated Wittenberg, Baldwin Wallace and Heidelberg by a combined score of 5-0 in their three most recent matches.
Much of the first half favored Capital, as the Comets out-shot Heidelberg 9-0.
The Comets got on the board first in just the 12th minute of action to ease some of the stress of the game.
Avery Hart -- the OAC's reigning Offensive Player of the Week -- received a pass in the middle of the box and attempted to swivel and shoot. With her angle blocked off by a defender, Hart set the ball back to
Grace Estes to calmly side foot into the far corner of the net. The goal served as the second in as many games that was scored by Estes and assisted by Hart and the third combination between the duo this season.
The second half proved to be much of the same as an offensive landslide in favor of Capital. By the end of the match, Capital had out-shot the Student Princes by a 24-4 margin, including an edge of 10-1 in efforts on target.
In all,
Lauren White was sharp to the one shot she faced on goal, being credited with one save. The shutout was her fourth of the campaign and third in a row. On the flipside of the field, Heidelberg's Meredith Bruce had a great game, stopping nine shots that she faced on target.
Audrey Kaufman led the Berg (7-3, 0-2) with two shot attempts. On Capital's side,
Avery Hart took 10 shots, while Estes,
Gabbi Viggiano and
Olivia Rotolo each registered three or more shots.
The Comets will hit the road for the next two matches. The road trip will start this Saturday as Cap will travel to University Heights to play John Carroll in a 1 p.m. kickoff.
