Senior Night Ends With Resounding 3-0 Win Over Wilmington

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A night of celebrating the Capital University seniors turned into a celebration on the field as the Comets once again took down an OAC opponent, moving into first place in the conference.

This time, Capital (8-6-2, 7-0-1 OAC) defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 3-0. Up in Ada, Ohio, crosstown rival and fellow conference leaders Otterbein University lost to Ohio Northern by a final score of 2-0, setting up a dramatic end to the regular season as Capital will pay a visit to Otterbein's Memorial Stadium for a 2 p.m. kickoff.

Prior to kickoff in tonight's match, the Comets recognized seven seniors for their incredible contributions to the program over the past four seasons. Those recognized include Cassidy Ryan, Olivia Rotolo, Kailey Stanisovska, Brooke Shutler, Holly Barlage, Gabbi Viggiano and student-assistant coach Morgan Eakin

In the match, Capital out-shot Wilmington 22-6 enroute to their eighth shutout of the season and their fourth game in which they have scored three or more goals.

Avery Hart got things going in the 12th minute of play with her seventh strike of the year. Hart finished off a through ball from Olivia Rotolo, by blasting a shot to the high center of the goal up and over the Quaker goalkeeper Lauren Galloway. The assist on the goal by Rotolo was her first of the season.

Capital carried the 1-0 lead into the 59th minute of action. There, Wilmington's Courtney Ryan was whistled for a penalty kick foul, setting Capital up for another opportunity. From 12 yards away, Lexi Snider stepped up and dispatched her third goal of the season, pushing Cap's lead to 2-0.

Just six minutes later in the 65th minute, Snider grabbed her second of the game, sealing the deal. This time, the sophomore beat Galloway in the lower corner of the net from open play on a through pass from Kailey Stanisovska, her second assist of the season.

With the three goal cushion, Capital eased their way to the final whistle.

The bulk of Capital offense efforts came from four players -- Avery Hart, Lexi Snider, Kailey Stanisovska, and Olivia Rotolo. Additional shots were also taken by Grace Estes and Cassidy Ryan
Heidi Edens led Wilmington with a pair of shot attempts.

Lauren White recorded her eighth shutout of the year in goal making four saves in net. Galloway made nine saves for the Quakers.

As mentioned already, Capital will travel to Otterbein this Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The match will serve as a pivotal moment in helping to decide the OAC Regular Season Champions. The winner of the game will also receive The Oars -- a reawakened tradition paying homage to the long-time rivalry between the two schools.
