Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season at Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The Capital University women's soccer team played their final regular season game on Saturday, taking on rival Otterbein in a road matinee match, falling to the Cardinals 1-0.

After a stalemate of a first half, Otterbein broke the tie in the second half with a goal in the 54th minute by Delaney Earl. Despite a frantic effort by the Comets to break-even, the final whistle blew with the scoreboard reading 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

In total, the Comets took 14 shots over the two periods, four of which reached their target. The Capital attackers were led by senior Gabbi Viggiano who took six.

On the defensive side of the ball, Capital's mainstay goalkeeper junior Lauren White faced 15 shots from the Cardinals, making three saves.

It certainly was a spectacular season for the Purple and White. Despite a slow start, going winless in their first seven games, they absolutely dominated conference play. The Comets would stay undefeated through the first eight games of conference play, the only blemish coming in this most recent match.

The Comets finish the regular season at 8-7-2 and 7-1-1 in the OAC. With this record, they finished near the top of the OAC table, claiming the third seed in the upcoming OAC tournament. They will take on Heidelberg in the first round on Tuesday. This game will be hosted by Capital and take place at Bernlohr Stadium. More information to come.
