NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- On the road at Muskingum University, the Capital University volleyball team dropped another in-conference match via a 3-0 scoreline on Wednesday evening.
The Comets -- now 3-14 overall and 0-7 in the OAC -- were upended by a near error-free Muskingum attack. Across three sets of play, the hosts landed 42 kills and committed just six attack errors, while Capital tallied 27 kills and 21 errors in the attack.
Leading Capital once again was
Delanie Nahikian who hit seven kills.
Alissa Holler was next on the team with five kills, while
Regina Cetnarowski tallied four kills.
Larissa Smith hit just three kills on seven swings without an error for a solid .429 hitting percentage.
Jordyn Hoffman controlled the offense with 15 assists, while
Jenay Kocsis added six assists.
Defensively,
Erin O'Connell paced the team with 11 digs.
Miranda Jordan, who recently tallied her 500th career dig, had nine digs. Kocsis added six digs as well. In the front row, Capital had just two total blocks.
Alissa Holler landed a solo block, while
Grace Grundy and
Regina Cetnarowski combined for one. In the service game,
Larissa Smith had three aces.
For Muskingum, Brook Bigrigg had 11 kills, while Emma Dunham added 10 kills. Emma Conrad dished out 22 assists, while Kyle DeLuca paced the team in digs with 12. Brynn Williams had three aces. The win lifted Muskingum to a overall record of 13-9 and an OAC record of 3-2.
Capital will look to rebound with a pair of non-conference games this weekend in Greenville, Pa. At 3 p.m. the Comets will take on St. Vincent College prior to taking on the host school, Thiel College at 5 p.m. Capital's next home match will be their final home match of the season and will serve as senior day when the Comets host Wilmington on October 27th.
