Women’s Soccer Scores Seven in Seventh Straight Win

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The Capital University took an astounding 54 shots on goal, with 24 them finding the frame enroute to a commanding 7-0 win over the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies on Wednesday evening. 

Capital moves above .500 for the first time this season as they now sit 7-6-1 overall and 6-0 in OAC play. The win solidifies the Comets atop the OAC standings in a tie with Otterbein University. 
After absolutely dominating the opening 27 minutes of play with 22 shots toward goal, Capital finally found the breakthrough in the 28th minute. Avery Hart was played through on the right side and lofted a cross to the far post where Faith Durbin arrived late to get a foot on the cross and break the deadlock. The goal was Durbin's second of the season and the assist was Hart's third of the year.
 
The immense first half pressure paid off as the Comets would double their lead in the 42nd minute of play. Grace Estes gathered a Muskie turnover on the left side and cut across the top of the box. Her near-post shot eluded Abigail Karstensen in the Muskingum net and was Estes's fourth goal of the season. 

Not long after halftime, the Comets put the game well out of reach as Gabbi Viggiano bagged her first goal of the season. After a Capital corner kick, the ball found its way out to freshman Maddie Shoaps.  Shoaps served a left footed cross in here Viggiano attacked it and headed it past Karstensen to push the score to 3-0. 

From there, the flood gates opened for Capital. In the games next 20 minutes, the Comets would score tfour more goals courtesy of Aaliyah Brletic, Avery Hart, Grace Estes, and Nicole Ogden

On Brletic's goal, Haley Moore served a free kick into the box that dropped at the foot of Brletic to place past the new Muskingum goalkeeper Kelly Buck. The goal was Brletic's second in as many matches. 

Hart would get her goal six minutes later with a well struck goal. Hart latched onto a long pass from the midfield and beat her defender before placing the ball over Buck's head to the back post. The goal lifted her to her fifth goal on the year. 

Just under 10 minutes later, Estes would nab her second goal of the game. Mia Gambaccini served a corner kick in from the far side where Brooke Shutler knocked it down to the wide-open Estes to slam home on the back post. The goal would level her with Hart for the team lead at five. 

Exactly one minute later, Ogden would score her first collegiate goal. Gambaccini would turn provider on Ogden's goal as she won the ball at midfield and then found the smart diagonal run of Ogden. The freshman daughter of head coach Matt Ogden, cut her shot to the back post, beating Buck for the team's final insurance tally of the match. 

In the final 14 minutes of play, Capital would thrust several more shots toward goal, but would not find another score as the game finished 7-0. In the past two seasons, Capital has outscored Muskingum by a combined 21-0. 

Muskingum's Morgan Meisel and Alyssa Schneider led the team with two shots each, while the team racked up 17 total saves. Karstensen led the way with 10 saves, while Buck added six and the team was credited with one stop. 

Capital will look to stay undefeated with a tough match this coming Saturday. The Comets will host the ever-tough Ohio Northern Polar Bears for a 1:00 matinee kickoff. ONU will be looking to get back on track and battle Capital tough after they were upset by Heidelberg this afternoon.
