COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Capital University women's soccer team secured yet another in-conference win on Saturday night under the Bernlohr Stadium lights. This time, the win came via a 2-0 decision over the University of Mount Union.
The win pushes Capital's season record to 6-6-1 and 5-0 in OAC. The Purple Raiders slipped up to 7-5-1 and 3-2 in conference play.
Capital dominated from the opening whistle as they took the lead in just the fourth minute of play and out-shot the visitors by a margin of 29-5.
In the fourth minute, the Comets went ahead 1-0.
Cassidy Ryan took a throw-in that eluded the Purple Raider defense and fell perfectly for
Avery Hart. The junior forward, Hart took one touch to settle the ball and then side-footed a shot past the Mount Union goalkeeper for the early advantage.
The early lead gave the Comets a sense of momentum as the team rallied off 14 first-half shots. Unfortunately, Cap was unable to add to their lead before the intermission.
The start of the second half proved to be much of the same as Capital immediately pressed for another goal. Eventually, the pressure paid off for Capital as in the 76th minute of play, they found their insurance tally to put their minds at ease.
Kailey Stanisovska hustled to the corner and won possession of the ball. She then sent a ball across the goal and a Mount defender cleared it right back to her. With a second chance, Stanisovska calmly found a wide open
Aaliyah Brletic at the top of the penalty area. There, Brletic took a touch and buried a shot to the lower left corner of the net. The goal seemed to put a cherry on top of what was a dominating game as both teams took a bit of urgency out of the match.
Capital sent a few more shot attempts toward the net, but ultimately cruised to the final whistle relatively content with the 2-0 win.
Capital junior goalkeeper
Lauren White earned her sixth clean sheet on the season, making two saves. She faced five shots from the Purple Raiders, three of which were on target. On the other end, Mount Union goalkeeper Rylee Oldfield faced a barrage of 29 shots from the Comets, 13 of which were on target. She made 11 saves.
The Capital women seek their seventh straight win on Wednesday as they take on the Muskies of Muskingum. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST in New Concord!
