Women’s Soccer Continues Conference Hotstreak

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Capital University women's soccer team took on Marietta College this Wednesday night at Marietta Field, defeating the Pioneers 2-0, winning their fifth straight and fourth straight since entering their conference schedule.

The Comets kept the Marietta keeper busy, taking 16 shots in the first half and 10 in the second for a total of 26, 10 of which reached their target. Leading the team in shots taken was junior Avery Hart who had seven (three on target).

The first of the Purple and White's goals came early on from the foot of freshman phenom Grace Estes in the 14th minute. This goal gives her three on the season, tying her for the team lead with Avery Hart.

Capital acquired some insurance in the second half when fellow freshman Faith Durbin came off the bench to score the first goal of her collegiate career in the 79th minute, pushing the Comets ahead 2-0. The score would remain unchanged when the final whistle blew, resulting in another Cap win.

Capital junior goalkeeper Lauren White had a fairly quiet night between the pipes, only facing four Marietta shots, and saving all three of those that were on target, giving her a fifth clean sheet on the season.

The Comets continue to top the Ohio Athletic Conference table at 4-0, tied with Ohio Northern and Otterbein who share the same record.

The Capital women look to stay undefeated in the OAC on Saturday as they welcome the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union to Bexley for a battle under the lights of Bernlohr Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. EST!
