Walton Eclipses Record as Football Falls at Heidelberg

Box Score

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Football Crusaders tried its best to keep Heidelberg's high-scoring offense on the sidelines on Saturday afternoon but in the end, the Student Princes took advantage of the opportunities they were given.

Heidelberg (5-4, 5-3 OAC) got off to a fast start as Bryan Lacey punched it in from three yards out in its first drive of the game.

Capital (2-7, 2-6 OAC) had an answer for the score with a 15 play, 75 yard drive that took eight minutes off the clock. Heidelberg defensive end Mario Petit-Frere stifled some of Capital's momentum when he blocked the extra point.

With his first carry of the game, junior runningback Brent Walton (Pickerington, Ohio) became the program's all-time leading rusher when, eclipsing 2,287 rushing yards. A mark set by Rayshaun Gales in 2002.

With a 7-6 lead entering the second quarter, Heidelberg's offense showed signs of things to come as quarterback Tyler Stoyle connected with Lashaun Moore on a 27-yard completion on the quarter's first play. Moore capped off the six-play drive with a seven yard touchdown reception.

A roughing the passer call helped move Capital's offense into striking distance before the drive stalled on the Heidelberg 22 yard line. Sophmore kicker Jack Johns (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) came through, making a 39-yard field goal.

The Student Princes offense continued to move the ball as  Lacey busted off a 41-yard scamper to the endzone to extend the lead to 14-9.

Heidelberg took a 28-9 lead into intermission following a seven-yard rushing touchdown from Stoyle with just 31 seconds left on the clock.

Capital added a touchdown in the third quarter while its defense held the Student Princes scoreless to draw the score 28-16.

The Crusaders' comeback attempt started when sophomore quarterback Nick Iske (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) hit Jake Skelton (Madison, Ohio) on a 24-yard touchdown pass. Capital immediately got the ball back after recovering its onside attempt.

Iske took advantage of the short field as he completed his fourth touchdown pass on the season from 19 yards out, Wally Brewer (London, Ohio).

The Student Princes recovered Capital's second onside kick, allowing their offense  to score the game's final touchdown.

The Crusaders had 437 yards of total offense, eclipsing the 300 rushing yards for the sixth time this season.

Walton ran for 130 yards, followed by Iske who gained 69. Skelton had three receptions for 50 yards and a score.

Linebacker Shawn Facione (Marion, Ohio) and defensive back Eric Stroski (Concord, Ohio) led Capital's defense with nine total tackles apiece. Tyler Conner (Grove City, Ohio) got to the quarterback for his first sack of the season. He also recorded his first forced fumble.
