OAC Men's Basketball Standings
The Capital University men's basketball team picked up an all-important road win on Wednesday evening, defeating Muskingum 67-53 in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest.
This victory ensured the Crusaders their 14th straight season with a .500 record or better in OAC play.
Sophomore guard A.J. Dixon (Hilliard, Ohio) led the Crusaders with 17 points on 7-14 shooting, while also tallying three rebounds and two assists.
Senior forward Ben Jackson also had an impressive night for the Crusaders, posting a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Jackson was 8-11 in field goals.
Both teams went back and forth with one another on offense in the opening 12 minutes of play before Capital put together a 17-6 run to end the first half.
At halftime, the Crusaders led 37-23, shooting 55.2 percent from the field, while holding the Muskies to a 29.6 percent mark from the field.
The Muskies then cut the Crusaders lead to just one point just over six minutes into the second half of play before eventually taking the lead at 44-43 with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation.
Capital then managed to put together a huge run to end the game, outscoring the Muskies 24-9 the remaining eight minutes of the game, eventually claiming a 67-53 victory to sweep the season series against Muskingum.
Following Dixon and Jackson was senior forward Jared Cashen (Norwalk, Ohio), scoring eight points off the bench on a perfect 4-4 shooting mark.
Freshman guard Tyrel Jackson (Dublin, Ohio) totaled seven points and two rebounds on the night.
As a team, the Crusaders finished at 26-52 shooting from the floor (50 percent), while holding the Muskies to 19-56 mark from the field (33.9 percent).
With the win, Capital (12-12 overall) improves to 9-8 in the OAC, with a few scenarios on the line as the final week of the regular season continues to unfold. The Crusaders could be as high as a No. 5 or as low as a No. 7 seed in next week's OAC Tournament.
