Men's Basketball Takes Down Quakers in OAC Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team used a strong second half to fuel its offensive outburst, leading to a 90-79 win over the defending Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament champion, Wilmington College, on Wednesday night at the Capital Center.

Charles English (Cincinnati, Ohio) rolled out 18 second-half points to help the Crusaders outscore the Fighting Quakers, 54-44. English finished with a game-high 24 points.

Tyrel Jackson (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) helped Capital regain the lead, 36-35, going into halftime. The Crusaders kept its hot hand going by starting the second half on a 7-0 run. A.J. Dixon (Hilliard, Ohio/Bradley) scored five of those points to help Capital increase their lead to eight points.

Daniel Ocke (Sidney, Ohio) made his return to the lineup and helped Capital take their lead to a game-best 12 points after hitting back-to-back three-pointers with under 14 minutes to go.

Wilmington used its three-point attack to close to within two possessions after Law Williams and RJ Leppert made consecutive shots from behind the arc. However, the Quakers never got any closer than six points.

Four of Capital's five starters finished with double figure scoring totals and five total hit that same mark. Andrew Bolka (Xenia, Ohio) finished one rebound shy of a double-double, completing the night with 15 points and nine rebounds. Dixon went 4-for-6 from field-goal range to end with 11 points while Ben Danhoff (Clyde, Ohio) finished with 10 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 shooting. Jackson rounded out the list of Crusaders with 10 or more points, closing out with 12.

Capital, as a team, shot 60 percent from the field while holding the Quakers to 40 percent. They outrebounded Wilmington 38-30 and dominated the paint with 42 of its 90 points from short range.

Capital has now won four straight OAC openers and improves its overall record to 3-4.

The Crusaders will host John Carroll University this Saturday, Dec. 6, at 1 p.m. inside the Capital Center.
