COLUMBUS – The Capital University men's basketball team picked up its second win in a row on Wednesday evening, defeating Muskingum 70-51 in an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.
In the opening half of play, the Crusaders starred on the offensive side of the ball, shooting 56.5 percent, while holding the Muskies to a mere 36 percent shooting mark in the opening frame.
Senior forward Ben Jackson (Columbus, Ohio), junior guard Michael Green (Dublin, Ohio), junior forward Andrew Bolka (Xenia, Ohio) and freshman guard Tyrel Jackson (Dublin, Ohio) combined for 23 of the Crusaders' 34 first half points.
Capital opened up its largest lead of the first half at the 6:49 mark, where at that point they led Muskingum by 12 points, followed by a 10 point lead at the halftime break.
As the second half of play unfolded, the Crusaders were able to extend their lead as the final half of play progressed, leading by as many as 21 points.
The Muskies struggled to breakdown the Crusaders' determined defensive pressure and offensive output, as they eventually fell by 19 points.
Leading the way for the Crusaders was Bolka, who tallied a game-high 14 points on three of five shooting, while earning the majority of his points from the foul line, converting on eight of 11 attempts.
Tyrel Jackson followed with 12 points on four of seven shooting from behind the arc, while Ben Jackson posted a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
In total, the Crusaders recorded a 53.3 percent shooting mark, while forcing the Muskies to shoot 35.2 percent for the game.
With the win, Capital (6-7 overall, 3-3 OAC) picks up its second consecutive OAC victory, as they now prepare to host Ohio Northern at home this coming Saturday.
Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 2 p.m.
