Megan Wharton was hired as the assistant coach for Capital women's soccer in August of 2022. This will be her first season on the Comet sidelines.
Wharton joins the Comets coaching staff as an active participant in the game of soccer for more than 20 years. Currently, she competes for the United States Women's Beach Soccer National Team, competing all over the world while representing her country.Â
A native of nearby Pickerington, Ohio, Wharton built her name in the Columbus area at Division II institution Ohio Dominican University. With the Panthers, Wharton played in 69 games, making 45 starts over her four-year career. She scored three goals and assisted on two others for eight points as a defender. During her tenure with ODU, she was named All-Midwest Region, All-Ohio and All-Conference on multiple occasions.Â
Prior to ODU, Megan played high school soccer with Pickerington Central High School and was the recipient of a number of All-Conference and All-District awards, while also being named team MVP as a senior.Â
Since graduating from ODU with her degree in graphic design, she transitioned from the turf to the sand and has had great success in the world of beach soccer. In 2019, Wharton captained the inaugural U.S. Women's Beach Soccer National Team, even scoring three goals in her first three games with the team. Since joining the team, Megan has competed in numerous international tournaments including the ANOC World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar and most recently, the Euro Winners Cup in Nazare, Portugal.Â
Since 2013, Megan has gained valuable experience on the coaching side of the game by working with Canal Winchester High School, Pride S.C., Barcelona United, and New Albany High School.
