Career Highlights
- Entering her fourth season at the helm of Capital softball, and sixth overall with the Capital program
- Has coached two All-OAC and 31 Academic All-Conference honorees as head coach
On August 19, 2019, Andrea Nagy made her return to Capital University after being named the 10th head softball coach in program history. She will embark on her fourth season during the 2022-23 academic year.
Nagy, a native of Elyria, Ohio, returns to Capital after spending the previous 2018 and 2019 seasons with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. She spent two seasons as the graduate assistant coach at Capital from 2016-17 under former head coach, Nan Payne.
Her first year as a head coach was shortened due to the COVID-19 global pandemic but before the stoppage she earned her first win in her first day on the top step. Capital defeated Cabrini University, 7-4, on February 24 to open the year and grant Nagy her first ‘W’.
In her second year overseeing Capital, the team was limited to an OAC-only schedule and played a shortened season. At the end of the year, she had mentored her team to a 16-21 record. The team pulled off an impressive four-game sweep over Wilmington to gain qualification to the six-team OAC tournament. There, the team lost 1-0 to eventual champions Ohio Northern. At the end of the season, Brianna Shearer was named All-OAC first team and Lauren Kachure was recognized to the OAC All-Tournament team.Â
In the third year overseeing the Comet program, Nagy's team dealt with inexperience and injuries all season long, finishing 5-27 overall. Despite the difficult season, Nagy managed to coach Liz Stonerock to All-OAC honorable mention honors.Â
Over the course of her two seasons at CU as a graduate assistant, Nagy helped develop five all-region picks, 11 Academic All-OAC honorees, and eight all-conference selections. With her assistance, Cap made a major run at the end of the year to advance to the 2017 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament championship game where CU finished runners-up.
Nagy spent the previous two years in a second stint with Case Western Reserve as an assistant coach and in 2018 helped the Spartans the most successful season in program history. Her impact led Case Western Reserve to finish fifth at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships, the best finish by any team in school history behind a program-best 38-12 record. The Spartans finished the year ranked sixth in Division III, which led the coaching staff to be named NFCA Regional and UAA Coaching Staff of the Year.
Nagy also spent the summer of 2019 serving as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Comets of the National Pro Fastpitch (NFP) softball league. There she assisted during home contests in the areas of pre-game batting and fielding practice, and skill evaluation of different areas of the team.
Prior to joining Capital in 2016, Nagy earned her first collegiate coaching experience between 2014 and 2015 with CWRU. In year one, Nagy coached the Spartans to a University Athletic Association (UAA) Tournament Championship, which led to UAA Coaching Staff of the Year honors. The following season was equally successful after the Spartans broke the then-school record for wins in a season, finishing 32-11 overall.
As a student-athlete at Cleveland State (NCAA Division I), Nagy was impressive on the field and in the classroom, making the Horizon League Honor Roll and being named a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Scholar-Athlete. She helped the Vikings to Horizon League Conference tournament championships in 2008 and 2010, and an NCAA Tournament appearance in 2009. She graduated from CSU in 2012 with a degree in communication management and also holds a master's degree in business administration from Capital (2017).
