D'Gary Wallace rejoins the Capital University football coaching staff for his first year in 2023. He will serve as the Co-Defensive Coordinator aongside Jonathan Black.Â
This is Wallace's second stint on Capital’s coaching staff having recently served as the linebackers coach during the spring 2021 season. That year, Wallace coached All-OAC selection Nick Fisanick and facilitated team camps. Since departing Capital, Wallace has served as the Nickels Coach for Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator at Defiance College and Wilmington College and most recently as the Defensive Coordinator for Defiance.Â
Along with his defensive responsibilities at the various stops, Wallace has held roles as an Assistant Head Coach, a Special Teams Coordinator, a Recruiting Coordinator, an Academic Coordinator and a Video Coordinator.Â
While at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, Wallace assisted the team in achieving the #6 ranked FCS school in defensive touchdown, the #7 FCS school in pass break-ups, and a top-five ranked special teams unit in blocked punts and field goals.Â
At Defiance, Wallace helped guide the team to top-three rankings in the HCAC in total tackles for a loss and sacks while also guiding the defense to 20 sacks and more than 10 forced turnovers for the first time since 2010. The 2022 season also marked the most successful season for the Yellow Jackets since 2015. There, he mentored All-Region linebacker Thomas Coltrain and many other weekly and postseason award winners.Â
Prior to coming to Capital in 2021, Wallace coached at Dunbar High School, Cincinnati Christian University, and at his alma mater Urbana University.Â
As a student-athlete at Urbana, Wallace was a two-time AFCA All-American and was named a Cliff Harris Award Finalist in 2015.Â
In the coaching realm, Wallace has been named to the NCAA Emerging Leaders list in 2021, the NCAA/NFL Administrators Academy in 2022 and to the Football Scoop Minority Watch List/Rising Stars list in 2022.Â
