CJ Westler was hired as an assistant football coach in August of 2022 and will enter his first season with Capital University in 2022-23. He will oversee the quarterbacks under head coach Brian Foos.
Westler is a 2011 graduate of Chowan University where he was a prolific quarterback for the Hawks. As a player, he was the Conference Player of the Year in 2009, a two-time All-Conference selection. He also received the Marion E. Jackson Award, the Chowan Male Athlete of the Year Award, and the Chowan Presidential Athletic Excellence Award. Additionally, he was named as a finalist for the Alonzo S. “Jake” Gaither Award. All of these accolades led to Westler’s induction into the Chowan Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019.
As a coach, Westler was first the quarterbacks coach for his alma mater before moving back to Ohio. In 2011, Westler started with Marion Harding High School where he had held multiple positions. He started as the pass game coordinator before adding Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach responsibilities. Throughout his tenure, he spent time coaching the quarterbacks, offensive line and running backs. After concluding his time with Marion Harding, Westler went to take the QB coaching role at OAC foe Otterbein University where he has coached since.
