Dan Briggs enters his first season on the Capital baseball coaching staff in the 2023-24 academic year. Briggs will serve as the Comets' hitting coach. 

Briggs brings a bevy of experience to the Comets program and will immediately serve as a valuable resource for the Capital players and coaches. Briggs has collegiate head coaching experience as he served as the head baseball coach at Denison University for 10 years. While at the helm of the Big Red, Briggs was the first head coach to win 20 games in a season and he remains the program's third winningiest head coach in the program's 130-year history. 

Aside from his coaching at Denison, Briggs has served as the hitting instructor for more than 100 major league, minor league and NCAA players. 

Briggs' playing career saw him named the State of California's High School Player of the Year before he embarked on a 22-year professional baseball career. He was drafted in the second round of the MBL Draft by the California Angels and he played seven seasons in the majors for the Angels, Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres, Montreal Expos and Chicago Cubs. Briggs also played 15 years in the minor league system where he hit .290 with 165 home runs and 916 RBIs. He concluded his playing career right here in central Ohio with the Columbus Clippers. Before calling it a playing career, Briggs did play two season in the Japanese Baseball League for the Yakult Swallows. 

Dan attended the University of California-Berkley and currently resides in Westerville, Ohio with his wife Susan. The couple has two grown children.
