Meet the Director: Gidd Sasser
Gidd brings championship experience and national-level leadership to Capital University as the founding Director of Esports. A three-time national champion and five-time conference champion coach, Sasser has built successful collegiate esports programs while also leading organizations across the professional gaming industry. At Capital, he is focused on creating a competitive, student-centered culture where varsity esports athletes can thrive in and out of competition.

Scholarship Opportunities
Deposited students interested in competing in varsity esports at Capital may be eligible for a minimum $500 esports scholarship. Scholarships are awarded to qualified student-athletes who demonstrate competitive gaming experience, leadership potential, and a passion for representing the Comets.

A. Esports are organized, competitive, multiplayer video games, involving professional, amateur, or student-athletes/players competing individually or in teams. Played on computers, consoles, and mobile devices. Often involving live-streamed tournaments, with traditional sports-level spectatorship, and substantial prize pools, esports have turned into a major global entertainment industry.

A. Esports creates opportunities for students to connect, compete, and build community. At Capital, students from all majors and backgrounds can get involved through competition, broadcasting, content creation, leadership, event management, and more. It’s a place to develop friendships, represent Capital, and be part of a growing industry while balancing academics and campus life.

A. Being part of Capital’s esports program helps students build real-world skills that translate into many career paths after graduation. Q. Do I have to play competitive games to be part of the esports program?
A. No. Students do not have to play competitive games to be part of Capital esports. The program is open to all skill levels. Competitive players are an important part of the program, but they are only one part of the larger esports ecosystem.
