Volleyball Drops Two at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the Wittenberg Fall Classic. First, Capital fell to Wittenberg before dropping their neutral site match to Illinois Tech. Both matches finished, 3-0. 

The Comets are now 0-4 to start the year, but will face five consecutive home matches looking to get into the win column. 

MATCH ONE: Wittenberg def. Capital, 3-0 (16-25, 14-25, 21-25)
After dropping the first two sets of the match, Capital continued to fight into the third and made life difficult for the Tigers who are receiving votes in the national polls. In the end, Capital was upended 25-21 in that final set. 

 Capital's Chloe Preocanin led the team in both kill and digs finishing with seven kills and 12 digs. 

Also chipping in on the offensive side was Ava Knight who landed six kills, followed by Sidney Hains who had three kills.
 
Stefanee Stacey finished with a team-best eight assists, followed by Carlee Thompson who had five. 

Thompson led the team in aces, ending with four. Preocanin had two aces, joined in the category by Knight, Shy Black and Cici Harris with one a piece. 

MATCH TWO: Illinois Tech def. Capital, 3-0 (12-25, 22-25, 18-25)
The Comets played their best set of the season in set number two as the Purple and White landed 14 kills in their efforts, but ultimately could not quite get over the hump in an eventual 3-0 loss to Illinois Tech. 

Chloe Preocanin was again the team leader in multiple categories as she led in kills with seven and was tied for the team lead with one ace. 

In offense, Ava Knight landed six kills and Aby Reed set down four kills in her efforts. 

At the service line, Knight and Stefanee Stacey each had one ace to join Preocanin. 

In the assist category, Stacey was the team leader with nine helpers. Carlee Thompson set up five assists. 

Stacey also led the team in digs, finishing with 10 digs. Shy Black ended with nine, while Knight had eight and Preocanin had seven. 

UP NEXT
Capital will be back in action for a five-game homestand, beginning Wednesday, September 9th as they host Wooster at 7 p.m. Then, the Comets will host their annual Pam Briggs Classic on Friday, September 11th and 12th.
