Columbus, Ohio – To recognize the four seniors who are part of the 2027 senior class, the Capital women's soccer team held its Senior Night against Asbury University with a 7 p.m. kickoff inside Bernlohr Stadium.
The Comets sealed the Senior Night victory with a strong second-half performance, defeating Asbury 2-0. Capital improves to 6-2-0 on the season, while Asbury falls to 4-2-1.
To open the game, the Comets controlled nearly all of the offensive possession as they searched for the opening goal. Capital fired off 11 shots, with three on goal, compared to Asbury's one shot in the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Comets finally found the back of the net, with
Payton Childers scoring both goals.
Right out of halftime, the Comets' offense went to work, with
Kristiane Kleppe popping the ball up to Childers, who secured Capital's first goal of the night and her first of the game.
Just 25 minutes later, Childers struck again, this time assisted by freshman
Maggie Springer. Childers finished with her right foot to extend the lead to 2-0 and seal the victory for the Comets.
Offensively, Capital dominated the match, totaling 22 shots, with eight on goal. The defense was just as strong, allowing Asbury to attempt only six shots overall and three on goal. Capital's senior goalkeeper recorded three saves in the shutout.

Caitie Byars.

Capital now sets its sights on one more non-conference matchup against crosstown rival Ohio Wesleyan. The Comets will face the Battling Bishops on September 29 at 7 p.m.
