DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Capital men's soccer team traveled to Delaware, Ohio and earned a 2-0 non-conference win at Ohio Wesleyan, improving to 4-1-1 on the year. The Battling Bishops fell to 1-4-1. The win over the Bishops marked the first for Capital since 2017 and just the fifth for the Purple and White over OWU in their head-to-head history.
In the first half, the Comets took the lead at the 23rd minute mark with a goal on the lower left side by
Harper Gillen to score his second goal of the season off of an assist from
Christian Monzalvo. That would be the only goal scored from the first half, with Capital leading 1-0, despite only one shot for the Comets, compared to seven for the Battling Bishops.
For most of the second half the score would stay the same with Capital finally scoring in the 86th minute mark with
Austin Young scoring from the lower left side on an assist from
Jackson Terry. That marked the first career goal for Young. Capital took five shots in the second half compared to nine for the Battling Bishops.
Gillen and Young each scored a goal for the Comets, while Terry and Monzalvo each logged an assist. Â Thomas had five saves for the Comets.Â
Capital's men soccer team will next play at home on Saturday, against the Fighting Scots from The College of Wooster. Kickoff is set for 2:00 PM
