GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team opened up the 2026 season with a difficult road contest at No. 21 nationally ranked Denison on Tuesday night. There, the Comets fell victim to a 78th minute goal, resulting in a 1-0 loss.
Capital is now 0-1 on the year, while Denison moves to 1-0.
The Comets were forced to battle all night as the Big Red controlled much of the game, but Capital still managed to find three shots toward goal – two from
Wassim Metatla and one from
Christian Monzalvo. Unfortunately, nothing would trouble the Big Red goalkeeper.
Despite the dip in offensive chances, the Comets defense remained in tact, holding Denison at bay much of the way before a 78th minute goal by Jack Rice proved to be enough to give the hosts the early season victory.
When all was said and done,
Noah Thomas made seven saves in the Capital goal, doing his best to preserve the Comets' net.
