ALLIANCE, Ohio – The No. 6 seeded Capital University softball team poured it on in the top of the sixth inning in an eventual 10-2 run-rule victory over No. 3 seeded Baldwin Wallace in the first round of the OAC Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Capital scored eight runs in the top of the sixth to pull away in what turned into a 10-2 final score for the Comets.
Capital is now 19-17 overall on the season, while BW conclude their year 20-13. With the win, Capital advances to play No. 1 overall seed Mount Union tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Baldwin Wallace struck first in the third inning on a sac fly, but the Comets rebounded for two runs in the top of the fourth inning thanks to an RBI by
Emma Sweetman and
Morgan Priest to go in front 2-1.
Later in the top of the sixth inning, Capital got going and never relented batting around and seeing all three pitchers on Baldwin Wallace's staff. The run scoring got started on three straight doubles by
Reagan Irons, Priest, and
Audrey Thomas that scored two runs. Then,
Kyleigh Kirby tripled to right field to score Thomas. The inning continued with RBIs by
Shelby Allen,
Megan Parry, Irons, and Priest again.
Baldwin Wallace tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth, but it wasn't enough to keep the game going as Capital closed out the 10-2 victory.
In total, Capital was credited with nine hits as
Reagan Irons and
Morgan Priest each had three.
Ryanne Wilson,
Megan Parry and
Audrey Thomas each had one hit as well. Six different Comets drew walks as well, while five others reached via errors.
Addi Parker pitched a complete game, tossing six innings and allowing two earned runs on five hits and four walks. She struck out one.
