COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University baseball delivered an impressive all-around performance on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Wilmington in a doubleheader at Huntington Park. The Comets used a late offensive surge to take game one, 9-5, before erupting early and often in a 15-1 run-rule victory in game two. For Capital, this marks the first OAC series sweep since Apr. 16 of 2019. With the pair of wins, the Comets move to 13-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
GAME ONE (9-5 W)
After falling behind early, Capital's offense came alive in the middle innings to secure a 9-5 comeback win in the opener.
Wilmington struck first and built a 3-0 lead through four innings, taking advantage of timely hits and patient at-bats. The Comets responded in a big way in the bottom of the fourth, plating six runs on seven hits to take control of the game. The inning was highlighted by a solo home run from Gio Mastrorosa, RBI singles from Justin Weaver, Bryce Kyees, and Ty Clifton, and a two-run knock from Kielan LaMarr.
Capital continued to add insurance in the sixth and seventh innings. Clifton drove in another run on a sacrifice fly before Michael Andryszczyk delivered a two-RBI single in the seventh to extend the lead to 9-5.
At the plate, Mastrorosa led the way going 3-for-5 with a home run and two runs scored. LaMarr finished 2-for-5 with two RBI, while Kyees, Clifton, Weaver, and Hutch Crociata each recorded multi-hit performances as the Comets totaled 15 hits.
On the mound, Diego Astacio earned the win in relief, tossing a scoreless inning. Tyler Bebout closed the door with a three-inning save, allowing just one hit while striking out three.
GAME TWO (15-1 W)
Capital wasted no time carrying its momentum into game two, exploding for 10 runs in the first two innings en route to a dominant 15-1 victory.
The Comets erupted for seven runs in the opening frame, capitalizing on aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. RBI contributions came from Ty Clifton, Robby Harrison, Justin Weaver, Michael Andryszczyk, and LaMarr as Capital quickly seized control. The offense added three more runs in the second inning, highlighted by a Mastrorosa home run and a two-RBI double from Andryszczyk.
Capital continued to pour it on with three runs in the fifth and additional runs in the seventh and eighth innings to cap the scoring at 15.
The Comets racked up 18 hits in the contest, led by LaMarr's 3-for-6, two-RBI performance. Kyees went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Harrison added two hits including a triple and two RBI. Mastrorosa drove in three runs, and Andryszczyk contributed three RBI as well.
William Furry was dominant on the mound, earning the win after tossing six innings and allowing just one run on five hits while striking out four. The bullpen duo of Dawson Lewis and Casey Wilkins combined for three scoreless innings, with Wilkins striking out five of the six batters he faced.

The Comets will continue OAC play on Saturday, Apr. 11, when they travel to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg for a weekend doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM.
