Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Baldwin Wallace

BEREA, Ohio - The Capital University women's lacrosse team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up on Wednesday evening, falling to Baldwin Wallace, 20-5, at Finnie Stadium. 

The Comets move to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-3 and 2-1 in the OAC.

Baldwin Wallace came out strong, scoring the game's first 11 goals in the opening quarter to take firm control early. The Yellow Jackets out-shot Capital 19-3 in the first period and held an 11-0 lead heading into the second.

Capital responded in the second quarter with three goals, including a pair from Mia Cruz and another from Sydney Norch, cutting into the deficit and bringing the score to 12-3 at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets extended their lead in the third quarter, while Capital was able to add one goal in the third from Cruz to complete her hat trick.

In the fourth quarter, Heather Stoner found the back of the net on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Norch, but Baldwin Wallace closed out the game with three additional goals to secure the 20-5 victory.

Cruz led the Comets with three goals, while Norch contributed one goal and two assists. Heather Stoner added a goal, and Leah Leno recorded an assist while also leading the team with six ground balls.

Defensively, goalkeeper Brooke Burchfield made 14 saves in the full 60 minutes of action.

Baldwin Wallace was paced by Alic's seven goals, while Ella Szalay and Lexi Miller each added three and two goals, respectively. Miller also tallied three assists in the win.

The Yellow Jackets controlled possession throughout the contest, winning the draw control battle 24-3 and holding a 41-14 advantage in shots.

The Comets now turn to Saturday, Apr. 11, as they will be traveling to Mount Union to take on the Purple Raiders at 12:00 PM.
