Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Swept by Marietta in Sunday Doubleheader

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team suffered an agonizing game two loss in 11 innings on the road at Marietta, completing what would be a disappointing day for the Purple and White. Capital dropped both games of the OAC twinbill via 8-0 and 3-2 scores.

The results pegged the Comets back to 15-19 overall and 4-10 in the conference, while Marietta jumped to 10-20 and 7-7 in the OAC.

GAME ONE: Marietta def. Capita, 8-0
The Comet bats struggled to get going in the first game of the day, collecting just three hits across nine innings of play. Those base hits came from Kielan LaMarr, Gio Mastrorosa and Andy Gill

The Pioneers on the other hand jumped on the Comets early, scoring eight runs across the first four innings to do all their damage, eventually winning, 8-0.

On the mound, Nash Andrix (3-4) started and pitched the first 3.2 innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks. He did strike out four. Tyler Bebout pitched a strong 3.1 innings in relief conceding three walks and one hit while punching out two hitters. Kaleb Mullins tossed a full inning as well, allowing a hit and two walks with one strikeout.

GAME TWO: Marietta def. Capital, 3-2 (11 Innings)
Capital went in front of game two midway through in the fifth inning as Kielan LaMarr hit an RBI single up the middle that scored Colin Tomanski. That run would hold through to the top of the sixth inning as Marietta would tie the game at 1-1 on an error.

Later in the game, Capital got themselves back in front in the top of the ninth inning as Bryce Kyees hit a sacrifice fly that scored Tomanski again. The run put the Comets up 2-1. Unfortunately for Capital, the Pioneers leveled the score again in the bottom half to send the game into extras at 2-2.
In the 11th inning, Marietta eventually won the game on a bases loaded walk to win 3-2.

Capital collected 12 hits in the game with both Ty Clifton and Colin Tomanski leading the way with three each. Michael Andryszczyk and Gio Mastrorosa each had two hits as well. Charlie Colson and Kielan LaMarr also chipped in one hit each.

Will Furry pitched the first six innings allowing one unearned run on four hits and three walks. He had three strikeouts. Casey Wilkins (2-3) pitched the next four innings allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. He punched out six hitters. Dawson Lewis also appeared for 0.1 innings, walking two.
