Comets Dominate Wilmington 21-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team delivered a dominant showing Tuesday night, rolling past Wilmington College by a 21-2 final at Bernlohr Stadium. With the win, the Comets now stand at 4-6 overall and 2-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference Play.

Capital set the tone early and never let up, exploding for nine goals in the opening quarter to take firm control. Anthony Carusone sparked the early run with a pair of unassisted goals, while Braylon Dawson and Aiden Evans quickly followed as the Comets built a commanding lead. Jess Lipp added two goals during the stretch, and Capital capped the quarter with scores from Charlie Howenstine and Colton Woods to take a 9-0 advantage after one.

The Comets continued their offensive surge in the second quarter, adding five more goals to extend the lead to 14-1 at halftime. Lipp remained at the center of the attack, tallying two more goals in the period, while Howenstine and Dawson each added to their totals. A late Wilmington goal broke up the shutout, but Capital entered the break in complete control.

Out of halftime, Capital maintained its momentum in the third quarter. Evans found the back of the net twice in the frame, including a connection with Woods, while Lipp and Evans linked up again later in the period to push the lead to 17-2.

The Comets closed out the contest with four goals in the fourth quarter. Evans completed his four-goal performance, while Luke Turner and Wes Millman each added goals, including a man-up score from Millman. Dawson capped the night with his third goal in the final minutes to secure the 21-2 victory.

Lipp led all scorers with five goals and an assist, while Evans recorded six points on four goals and two assists. Dawson and Howenstine each contributed hat tricks, and Mason Miller dished out six assists to pace the offense. Miller's six assist performance places him in a three-way tie for the single-game program assist record, knotted up at six with teammate Charlie Howenstine, along with Carson Knott who reached the mark in 2021.

Capital controlled play across the board, outshooting Wilmington 55-12 and holding a 32-4 advantage in shots on goal while also winning the faceoff battle 20-7 and collecting 41 ground balls compared to Wilmington's 27.

In goal, Wyatt Stemler earned the win, allowing just one goal and making two saves in the first half, while Luc Kadlic handled the second half to help preserve the decisive result.
