Women’s Lacrosse Win Second in a Row

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team rolled to their second straight win on Saturday morning as they steamed past West Virginia Wesleyan by a final score of 18-5. 

The Comets are now 3-3 overall, while WVW is now 1-3. 

Capital got ahead 3-0 in the first three minutes of the game and never looked back. Those opening goals came courtesy of Sydney Norch and two from Leah Leno

As the first quarter continued on, Grace Wolfe scored twice to go with one more from Norch and a first from Eleanor Walsh. The goals made it 7-3, Capital at the end of the first quarter of play. 

In the second, Capital allowed two more goals, but also scored six of their own to carry a 13-5 lead into the half. Second quarter goals came from Leno (2), Wolfe (2), Norch and Heather Stoner

Out of the half, Capital cruised to victory as they held WVW scoreless through the final 30 minutes of play while adding five more goals. Second half scores came off the sticks of Holly Stoner, Leno (2), and Mia Cruz

THE NUMBERS
Capital was led by a career-high showing from Leah Leno who recorded new hights in points, goals and assists as she finished with six goals, four assists for 10 points. She also added six draw controls. 

Grace Wolfe also had a career-high in scoring, ending with four goals and one assist. She had two caused turnovers and two draws as well. 

Sydney Norch also had a productive outing, finishing with three goals, two assists and one caused turnover. 

Heather Stoner (2), Holly Stoner, Eleanor Walsh, and Mia Cruz also scored once. 

Kadyn Huer led the defense with three caused turnovers. 

Brooke Burchfield made four saves in the game. 

UP NEXT
Capital will be back in action at home on Wednesday, March 11th. First draw is slated for 4 p.m. as they host Adrian College at Bernlohr Stadium.
