Comets Can't Keep Up With Trine in Non-Conference Contest

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Capital University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-2 decision to Trine on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.

Capital (3-6, 1-1) struck first in the opening quarter, as Jess Lipp found the back of the net at the 13:18 mark to give the Comets an early 1-0 lead. Trine quickly responded with three unanswered goals - two coming on extra-man opportunities - to take a 3-1 advantage after one.

The Thunder continued to build momentum in the second quarter, adding a pair of goals to extend their lead to 5-1 heading into halftime.

Out of the break, Capital showed signs of life as Aiden Evans capitalized on a man-up opportunity off an assist from Charlie Howenstine, cutting the deficit to 5-2 with 14:44 remaining in the third. That would be the final goal of the day for the Comets, as Trine answered with three more goals in the third and one in the fourth to secure the 9-2 victory.

Lipp and Evans accounted for Capital's two goals, while Howenstine added the lone assist. In goal, Wyatt Stemler turned in a strong performance with 13 saves.

As a team, Capital held a slight edge in face-offs (8-6) and finished nearly even in ground balls (32-33), but Trine capitalized on extra-man opportunities and out-shot the Comets 34-21.
