BEREA, Ohio – Capital jumped out to an early lead, but Baldwin Wallace used a strong second half to pull away as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Comets 90-77 Saturday afternoon at Ursprung Gymnasium.
Capital (8-14, 3-10 OAC) led 40-37 at halftime after shooting 41.9 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes, with the contest featuring six ties and 14 lead changes overall. Baldwin Wallace (7-15, 4-9 OAC) responded after the break by shooting 58.6 percent in the second half and outscoring the Comets 53-37.
Se'Ron Calloway-White led Capital with a game-high 24 points, knocking down four three-pointers while shooting 9-of-15 from the field.
McKane Finkenbine added 12 points and five assists, while
Brody Gowen provided a spark off the bench with 12 points and five rebounds.
Chris Mitchell finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks to anchor the Comets inside.
Capital held a narrow lead early in the second half and extended its advantage to as many as eight points, but Baldwin Wallace answered with a decisive run midway through the period. The Yellow Jackets took control behind efficient shooting and capitalized on turnovers down the stretch to build a double-digit cushion in the final minutes.
The Comets shot 45.0 percent from the floor and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line, scoring 38 points in the paint and receiving 23 points from the bench. Baldwin Wallace finished with 46 bench points and 48 points in the paint to seal the conference victory.
