COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University women's basketball took down the Fighting Muskies of Muskingum 72-56. The effort was led by
Samaree Perkins and
Kya Jordan who both had career nights. Both teams started out hot in the first quarter. Capital would take the lead going into the second quarter after an acrobatic one-legged three from
Kyah Ewing. The second quarter was much slower with both teams playing solid defense. Muskingum kept it close, but Capital went into the half with a 39-31 lead. An 8-0 run in the middle of the third quarter allowed the Comets to pull away, and they had no trouble finishing off the Muskies 73-56.

The win extends Capital's win streak to five games and makes them 15-6 on the year (8-4 in the OAC). Losing drops Muskingum to 10-10 and 3-8 in the conference.

Both teams started off hot. Muskingum shot an impressive 57.1% from three in the first quarter, but the Comets were able to keep it close by finding success in the paint. With the clock winding down
Kyah Ewing pulled up off one leg from beyond the arc and drained a three ball, beating the buzzer and giving Capital the lead 27-24.

The second quarter was much slower. Capital ramped up their defense, only allowing seven points in the quarter. The Comets were led offensively in the first half by
Samaree Perkins and
Kyah Ewing who each had 12 points. Capital dominated the boards as well, bringing in 27 rebounds to Muskingum's 17. The all-around effort from the Purple and White allowed them to go into the half with a 39-31 lead.

An 8-0 run by the Comets midway through the third forced a Muskingum timeout. The run was spurred by a pair of three pointers from
Julia Nash. Capital was able to pull away thanks to their continued domination on the boards which led to second chance points. The Comets would go into the fourth quarter with a 60-46 lead.Â

Capital rode their momentum into the fourth quarter and had no trouble finishing off the game.
Samaree Perkins continued to dominate on both ends and the Comets were firing on all cylinders, leading to a 72-56 win.

The Numbers
Samaree Perkins had a monster double-double, finishing the game with 18 points and a career-high 23 rebounds. She also was a co-leader in blocks with two.

Kya Jordan recorded a double-double of her own with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Jordan led the Comets in assists with six and was co-leader in blocks with two.

Kyah Ewing had a very efficient 16 points, going 7-10 from the field. Ewing was co-leader in steals with two, getting it done on both ends.

Julia Nash scored 14 for Capital on an impressive 50% from beyond the arc. Nash also wrangled in a career-high six rebounds and was co-leader in steals with two.

Kendall Spreen added 12 points to Capital's offensive effort with all 12 coming from deep range.

Capital University women's basketball will travel to Berea, Ohio to play against the #8 ranked Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets. The game is scheduled to tip-off Saturday, February 7 at 4:00 pm.
