BEREA, Ohio – Capital faced a tough road test Saturday afternoon, falling 63-49 to nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace inside Ursprung Gymnasium.
The Comets (15-7, 8-5 OAC) battled throughout the contest but were unable to overcome a balanced effort from Baldwin Wallace (20-2, 13-0 OAC), which maintained control in each quarter. Capital trailed 27-22 at halftime before the Yellow Jackets extended their lead in the second half.
Samaree Perkins led all scorers with 21 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the season. It was a historic day for the senior, as she became just the sixth player in program history to eclipse the 1,500-career point mark, along with being just the third player to surpass 1,000 career rebounds.
Kendall Spreen added nine points on three made three-pointers, while
Kyah Ewing contributed five points off the bench.
Capital stayed within striking distance early in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to single digits, but Baldwin Wallace responded with a run midway through the period to push the advantage back to double figures. The Yellow Jackets shot 60.0 percent from the floor in the final quarter to seal the victory.
The Comets finished with a plus-four rebounding margin and scored 26 points in the paint, while forcing 15 Baldwin Wallace turnovers. Capital also received 11 points from its bench in the conference matchup.
