WESTERVILLE, Ohio – As announced on Monday afternoon by the Ohio Athletic Conference, Capital University's Stephanie Makris and Casey Wilkins have been named OAC Athletes of the Week in their respective sports. 

Makris earned the OAC's Athlete of the Week award for women's tennis, while Wilkins was named the Pitcher of the Week in baseball. Both awards are the first in the careers of both players. 

The two selections bring the Capital athletics department total up to 23 for OAC Athletes of the Week. 

Makris, a freshman, was the lone Comet to go 2-0 in Capital's comeback 4-3 win on the road at Anderson this weekend. In doubles play, Makris paired with teammate Annika Hansen to win No. 1 doubles via a 6-3 scoreline. In singles play, Makris played No. 1 singles and defeated Anderson's Ella Frantz by scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Capital's win over Anderson brought their overall record to 5-4 this season. 

Wilkins, a senior, earned the pitcher of the week award after he came on in relief to pitch five full innings in Capital's 12-4 win over Brevard. In the game, Wilkins earned the win after allowing just two hits, one walk and one run across his five innings of work. He also struckout six opposing batters. Wilkins is now 2-0 in his two appearances this season and the Comets are off to a 5-0 start for the first time since 2020. 

Both the tennis and baseball teams will next be in action on spring break as they will both travel to Florida for several games. The tennis team will play at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, while the baseball team will play at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach.
