Comets Defeat Heidelberg in Regular Season Finale

TIFFIN, Ohio – Capital closed the regular season with a convincing 81-63 road victory over Heidelberg University on Saturday afternoon inside Seiberling Gymnasium.

The Comets (16-9, 9-7 OAC) overcame an early first-quarter deficit before taking control of the game over the final three quarters, outscoring the Student Princes 61-38 after the opening period.

After Heidelberg jumped out to a five-point lead at the end of the first quarter, Capital responded with strong defensive pressure and balanced scoring in the second. The Comets held Heidelberg to just 11 points in the period and carried a 41-36 advantage into halftime.

Capital continued to build momentum in the second half, using offensive rebounding and transition opportunities to extend its lead. The Comets finished the game with a 48-39 rebounding advantage, including 21 offensive boards that led to 23 second-chance points.

Kendall Spreen led all scorers with 24 points, knocking down five three-pointers to pace Capital's offense.  For Spreen, this marks a new career high, surpassing her 23 scored against Marietta in January of this season.

Also recording a new career high was Kya Jordan, who finished with 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and five assists.

Samaree Perkins added a dominant all-around performance, finishing with 23 points and a game-high 16 rebounds, while also drawing 15 attempts at the free-throw line.

Capital put the game away in the fourth quarter by converting at the free-throw line, going 15-for-18 in the final period to maintain separation down the stretch.
