COLUMBUS, Ohio - Despite a strong comeback effort, Capital University women's basketball fell short to Ohio Northern in the quarterfinal round of the OAC tournament 62-55. Capital finishes the season with a 16-10 record and a 9-8 record in the conference. ONU advances to the semifinal round of the OAC tournament with a record of 10-16 and an 8-8 record in the conference.
Capital had a rough start to the game, only scoring seven points in the first quarter. The Comets were able to score better in the second quarter but still had some trouble on the defensive end. The Purple and White went into the half down 34-22.
The Comets got hot in the third quarter and a 7-0 run forced an ONU timeout. After being down as much as 14, Capital had closed the gap to four. The Comets outscored ONU 16-8 in the third quarter but were still trailing 42-38 going into the fourth.
After some back and forth basketball, Capital found themselves down three. With just over a minute left ONU made a three-pointer to extend their lead to six. The Comets kept at it but were unable to complete the comeback, leading to a final score of 62-55.
The Numbers
Samaree Perkins finished off her incredible Capital career with yet another double double, scoring 11 points and leading the team with 10 rebounds. Perkins finished the season averaging 20 points and 12 rebounds per game. Finishing with 1,577 career points, she places herself fourth in the program's all-time scoring record books. With her rebound total of 1,048, Perkins finishes second all-time in career rebounds.
Kya Jordan led the scoring effort for Capital with 14. Jordan also led the team in assists with four and steals with three.
Julia Nash scored 10 points for the Comets tonight. She also brought in three rebounds and had two steals and two assists.
Kendall Spreen contributed nine points to Capital's offensive effort. Spreen also snatched two steals.
Kyah Ewing scored nine points for the Comets. Ewing also managed to grab three rebounds.
