Women's Basketball Falls to Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Capital women's basketball fell on the road Wednesday night, dropping a 72-41 Ohio Athletic Conference contest to Mount Union at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.

The Comets (15-9, 8-7 OAC) came out strong early, trading baskets with the Purple Raiders through much of the opening quarter. Capital knocked down three early three-pointers and stayed within ten points after one, trailing 23-13. The Comets continued to battle in the second quarter, outscoring Mount Union 17-6 to pull within one point at halftime, 29-28.

Capital briefly took the lead late in the second quarter, but Mount Union responded coming out of the locker room. The Purple Raiders opened the third quarter on a decisive run, holding Capital to five points in the period while extending their advantage to double figures. Mount Union carried that momentum into the fourth, using efficient shooting and strong rebounding to pull away down the stretch.

Samaree Perkins led Capital with 14 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, adding two assists and two blocks. Kya Jordan finished with eight points and three assists, while Kendall Spreen added six points and three steals. Kyah Ewing contributed six points off the bench for the Comets.

Capital shot 23.3 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from three-point range, while Mount Union capitalized in the paint and on the glass, out-rebounding the Comets 56–26.

The Comets will be back in action for their regular season finale, traveling up to Tiffin to take on Heidelberg. Tip-off is set for 3 pm.
