COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University women's basketball used a dominant fourth quarter to pull away from Ohio Northern, earning a 59-49 Ohio Athletic Conference victory Friday afternoon inside the Capital Center Performance Arena.
The Comets (14-6, 7-4 OAC) outscored the Polar Bears (7-13, 6-5 OAC) 20-9 in the final quarter, turning a one-point deficit into a double-digit win to secure their seventh conference victory of the season.
The game was tightly contested early, as the two teams were knotted at 14 after the first quarter. Capital built a slim advantage at halftime, leading 28-23, before Ohio Northern edged ahead late in the third quarter. The Polar Bears carried a 40-39 lead into the final period, setting the stage for Capital's decisive run.
Samaree Perkins led the Comets with 16 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and knocking down 7-of-9 free throws while adding seven rebounds.
Kendall Spreen and
Kya Jordan each contributed 11 points, with Spreen also recording three steals and two blocks.
Kyah Ewing provided a strong spark off the bench, finishing with 11 points, five rebounds, and two blocks.
Capital's defense locked in down the stretch, holding Ohio Northern to just 21.4 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. The Comets also capitalized at the free-throw line, going 5-of-7 in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.
The Comets forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 28 points, while also recording 11 steals and five blocks on the defensive end.
