Comets Earn 75-65 Win in Final Non-Conference Game

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - For the first time in 2026, the Capital University women's basketball team took the floor, taking on Westminster College.  In a closely contested match-up, the Comets would break their four game skid and earn the 75-65 victory.  With the win, Capital moves to 9-4 on the season.  Meanwhile, Westminster falls to 4-7.

The Titans would come out of the gates hot, scoring seven straight points to begin the game.  They would control the first quarter, with the score being 20-12 in favor of Westminster heading into the second.  Keeping the Comets in it was Kyah Ewing, as the freshman had six points in the period.

The Capital offense would come to life in the second quarter, going on a 15-0 run to begin play and take the lead.  The sequence would be highlighted by two quick threes from Izzy Rodriguez and Julia Nash, giving the Comets six points and the lead in just a 30 second span.  The Titans would battle back, cutting the lead to just two points with the score at 37-35 heading into the break.

After both teams spent the third quarter trading baskets, the game would stand at 55-53 heading into the fourth, with the Comets holding a two point advantage.  The first half of the quarter would be very competitive, with Westminster knotted the game up at 63 with just over five minutes remaining in the game.  Ensuring that Capital would hang on for the win was Samaree Perkins, who would score seven points in these closing minutes to give her team the 75-65 victory.

Perkins would lead the Comets in scoring, finishing with 24 points to go along with a team high nine rebounds.  The senior was clutch from the free throw line, cashing in 10 of her 12 attempts.

Recording a new career high was Kyah Ewing, as the freshman finished with 19 points.  She would go a very efficient 8-11 from the field, also adding five rebounds and three assists.

Making her first career start was Izzy Rodriguez, who finished her day with eight points and seven rebounds.

The backcourt duo of Julia Nash and Kya Jordan would combine for 20 points, with Nash contributing 12 and Jordan totaling eight.
