COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team found themselves in an enthralling 101-93 offensive shootout tonight, but unfortunately came out on the wrong end in the losing effort. As a team, the Comets converted 60% from the floor and nearly 43% from beyond the arc, but a 47% mark from the charity stripe proved harmful in the loss.
Capital is now 7-12 overall and 2-8 in the OAC, while Wilmington moves to 8-11 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
Despite the Comets holding an edge in overall percentage of made shots, the Quakers converted 11 three-pointers and knocked down six more free throws than Capital to account for the point spread on the final score.
Capital found five players in double-digits in the game, led by 18 from
McKane Finkenbine. Finkenbine also dished out 10 assists – a season-high – to account for his third career double-double.
Next in the scoring output was 17 points from
Brody Gowen off the bench. Gowen was a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor and added five rebounds and two assists.
Julian Mitchell scored 15 points in his outing to go with six rebounds and an assist.
Cade Davies scored 14 points off the bench on a cool 6-of-7 shooting. He added a rebound, an assist and a block.
Se'Ron Calloway-White rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 to go with two boards, three assists, a block and two steals.
