Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Big Fourth Quarter Propels Women’s Basketball to Road Win

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team found themselves in a tight battle for much of the game on the road at WIlmington College on Wednesday night. However, a big fourth quarter led the Comets to a 60-51 win in the end. In that fourth quarter alone, Capital outscored the Quakers 22-9 to swing a four-point deficit at the end of three quarters.

Capital now sits at 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the OAC, while Wilmington is 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

Overall, the Comets seemed to manage their way through the game, tonight, as the team faced difficulty shooting from three-point range, but they made up for it elsewhere with a sharp mark from inside the arc and a strong effort from the free throw line. As a team, Capital shot 45% from two-point land to overcome a mediocre 11% from range. And the team converted 81% from the charity stripe. Additionally, the team held the edge on the boards, thanks to a 17-rebound outing from Samaree Perkins

To go with her 17 rebounds, Perkins led all scorers with 28 points – a season-high against OAC competition. The 17-rebound performance for Perkins marked the fifth time this season she has had 17 or more rebounds in a single game and carried her over the 950 career rebound plateau. The senior now stands at 959 career boards. Additionally, Perkins now sits on 1,456 career points, as she closes in on the 1,500-point milestone.

Elsewhere in the game, both Kendall Spreen and Kya Jordan finished with nine points each. Spreen added four rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Jordan chipped in eight rebounds, one assist, one block and three steals.

Izzy Rodriguez and Kyah Ewing each had six points. Rodriguez added six boards, one assist, one block and a steal, while Ewing ended with six boards and a steal.

Nyla Washington accounted for the team's other two points.
