COLUMBUS, Ohio - Capital University women's basketball hosted the Purple Raiders of Mount Union in an OAC conference matchup. Despite Samaree Perkin's 26 points and 12 rebounds, the Comets weren't able to keep up with the Purple Raiders. Mount Union came out on top with a final score of 70-50. The loss makes Capital 10-6 on the season and 3-4 in the conference. Mount Union moves to 12-4 overall and 4-3 in the conference.
Capital struggled offensively in the first quarter with only nine points, all scored by
Samaree Perkins. Offensive production increased in the second quarter and a late three by
Samaree Perkins cut the Mount Union lead to nine. Perkins continued to lead the Comets through the first half with 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Capital went into the half trailing 34-22.
Mount Union continued to be aggressive on both ends of the floor. It was looking like the Purple Raiders would run away with it until the Comets went on a 9-0 run midway through the fourth quarter to cut the lead to 13. The late effort was shut down by Mount Union who would go on to win with a final score of 70-50.
The Numbers
Samaree Perkins literally did it all for the Comets tonight, leading the team in every major stat category. She finished the game with 26 points, 12 rebounds, two steals, one assist, and a block.
Kyah Ewing played well on both ends, scoring eight points and was co-leader in steals with two.
Kya Jordan scored seven points and had five rebounds.
