Second Half Shooting Struggles Doom Comets | Fall to Otterbein 74-54

WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Capital women's basketball fell to Otterbein, 74-54, in Ohio Athletic Conference action on Friday, Jan. 10 at the Rike Center. The Comets moved to 10-5 overall and 3-3 in league play, while the Cardinals improved to 10-4 on the season and 4-1 in the OAC.

The contest opened as a back-and-forth affair, with neither team able to gain separation in the first quarter. Capital knocked down three triples in the opening period and the score was knotted at 17-17 after 10 minutes. Otterbein gained a slight edge in the second quarter, outscoring the Comets 17-13 to take a 34-30 lead into halftime.

Capital stayed within reach through the third quarter, cutting the deficit to four midway through the period. The Cardinals answered with a late run to take a 51-44 advantage heading into the final frame. Otterbein pulled away in the fourth quarter, holding Capital to just one field goal in the period and extending the margin to secure the conference win.

Samaree Perkins paced the Comets with 18 points, including four three-pointers, while Kendall Spreen and Kya Jordan each finished with 11 points. Izzy Rodriguez added seven points and four rebounds, as Capital shot 34.0 percent from the field and 34.8 percent from beyond the arc.

The Comets will return home on Wednesday, Jan. 14 to take on Mount Union at 7 pm.
