COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University football team struggled to get their offense going in an eventual 44-7 loss at the hands of Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Comets now fall to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the OAC, while BW improves to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with a first quarter touchdown and field goal to make it 10-0 after the first period.
In the second quarter, the Comets finally got something going offensively as a 12-play, 65-yard drive that resulted in the only points of the game for the Purple and White. The drive resulted in
Tyler Love rushing in from two yards out.
Ty Boughman was true on the extra point to make it a 10-7 game.
A late second-quarter score from BW swung the momentum straight into BW's hands, leading to a halftime score of 17-7 that ballooned out to 44-7 by the final horn.
THE NUMBERS
Tyler Love accounted for 75 yards passing and 94 yards on the ground in addition to the only score of the game.
Donovan Duncan passed for 36 yards on two completions.
Finn Devine led the receivers with one catch for 32 yards, followed by
Preston Hannika with two catches for 30 yards.
Nate Younker (25 yards),
Wesley Armstead (11 yards),
Kassim Johnson (nine yards), and
Brandon Buchanan (4 yards) accounted for the others.
Marcus Young Jr. led the defense with nine tackles, followed by both
Bryson Roberts and
Jio Rodriguez with eight each.
Jayden Carter did account for a blocked PAT try in the game.
Dameium Marcell took eight returns for 152 yards including a long of 31 yards.
