Men’s Lax Ends Regular Season with a Win; Earns Spot in OAC Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team (6-9, 4-5 OAC) hosted Muskingum (5-12, 2-7 OAC) for their regular season finale on Wednesday night, closing out the regular season with a 14-7 win. With the win, the Comets secured the sixth and final spot in the upcoming OAC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
CU started off on the wrong foot as they gave up back-to-back goals in the going going and found themselves behind at the first break, 3-2. Charlie Howenstine and Ty Chase took credit for the two first quarter scores. The Purple and White would find their groove in the second quarter, outscoring Muskingum 6-1 to double up the Muskies at the half, 8-4. Colton Woods would net a hat trick for the Comets alongside two from Mason Spaulding and one from Jacob Poole.

Cap pulled even further ahead in the third quarter, adding four more scores and holding MU to just one, making it 12-5. Poole put in another, joined by Anthony Carusone, Kaison Durham, and Mason Miller. Finally, the two sides split the fourth quarter at two goals apiece with Spaulding being responsible for both for Capital, ending the game at 14-7 in favor of the boys from Columbus.

THE NUMBERS
Mason Spaulding led the Comets with five points on four goals and one assist, as well as five ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Colton Woods would end up with a career-high three goals as well as one assist for a career-high four points. He also grabbed two ground balls.

Jacob Poole put in two goals and tied his career high of five ground balls.

Mason Miller scored once and assisted twice to finish with three points, adding three ground balls as well.

Kaison Durham and Charlie Howenstine both finished with one goal and one assist. Howenstine also secured two ground balls.

Ty Chase and Anthony Carusone both scored once. Chase also collected a ground ball.

Dylan Christopherson and Max Schillig each dished out an assist with Schillig getting a caused turnover and a ground ball as well.

Freddy Noday and Tyler Lieu combined for 21-of-25 on the faceoff. Noday went 14-for-16 and nabbed eight ground balls. Lieu was 7-for-9 with five ground balls.

Devin Flynn (3 CT, 2 GB), Gino Nave (3 CT, 2 GB), Leelan Durham (3 CT, 1 GB), and Jordan Marty (2 CT, 2 GB) led things on the defensive end.

Luc Kadlic (4-4) and Wyatt Stemler split time in the cage. Kadlic got the start and the win with three saves through the first three quarters. Stemler came in for the fourth and made two saves.

The Comets turn their sights to the OAC Tournament with seeding and schedules still to be determined.
