Women’s Lacrosse Stumbles Against Mount Union

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (8-5, 4-2 OAC) hosted Mount Union (11-4, 5-1 OAC) for the finale of their home schedule on Friday, ultimately suffering a 24-12 loss.

The Comets kept up for the first few minutes but fell behind near the end of the first quarter as the Purple Raiders went on a 5-0 run in the last four minutes, leaving Cap behind 10-4. Dylan Smith was responsible for three of the four first quarter goals with the other belonging to Amber Street. The Purple and White would fall further behind in the second quarter after being outscored 7-4, making it 17-8 at the half. Grace Osborn finally got on the board with her 100th goal of the season, joined by Street, Ava Vendetti, and Amber Street.

The scoring slowed down in the second half as Mount Union had earned a running clock after outscoring CU 4-1 in the third, the lone goal coming from Andi Henry. Finally, the two sides would split the fourth quarter at three goals apiece, bringing the final scoreline to 24-12 in favor of the visitors.

THE NUMBERS
Dylan Smith led CU with five points on three goals and two assists, also grabbing a ground ball.

Grace Osborn scored three goals and dished out one assist for four points, collecting 11 draw controls as well.

Andi Henry had three points on one goal and two assists.

Amber Street and Brenna Todd scored two goals each. Todd added a caused turnover as well.

Leah Leno notched two points on two assists with one ground ball.

Ava Vendetti netted one goal, secured eight draw controls, and picked up one ground ball.

On the defensive end Holly Stoner had a caused turnover and a ground ball while Rylee Jarvis, Ele Shalawylo, Avery Hart, and Grace Wolfe all had one ground ball each.

Emily Serafinchon (6-4) made three saves with one caused turnover and one ground ball.

UP NEXT
The Comets will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday at Muskingum at 6:00 p.m. before turning their sights to the OAC Tournament starting next Saturday, April 26th.
