DANVILLE, Ky. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (4-2, 0-0 OAC) got back in the win column despite the weather as they played a shortened game at Centre on Saturday. The Comets and the Colonels would only get in 51:24 before the storms started to roll in, with Cap coming away with the win. 17-13.
HOW IT HAPPENED
CU sputtered a bit in the first quarter, falling into a 2-0 deficit early on.
Avery Hart would finally break the ice at the 9:24 mark, taking it coast-to-coast for the team's first goal of the afternoon. The Purple and White would be outscored 7-4 in total in the first quarter, with two of the other three goals coming from
Grace Osborn and the last from
Andi Henry.
Capital battled back in the second quarter, eventually tying the game at 10-10 entering the final minute of the half. The Comets would then steal the lead at literally the last second of the second quarter when
Brenna Todd tallied the 11th goal as time expired. That would be one of Todd's two goals in the quarter, with three of the other five for CU being scored by Osborn, and the remaining two by Hart and
Ava Vendetti.
Cap extended their lead from 11-10 to 16-12 in the third quarter with three of the five goals coming courtesy of Osborn and the other two from Vendetti and
Leah Leno. Both sides scored one in the fourth quarter before the game was called a little less than halfway through the 15-minute period, bringing the final scoreline to 17-13. The final goal for the Purple and White was scored by none other than Osborn.
THE NUMBERS
Grace Osborn scored a season-high nine goals for the fourth time in six games. She added 12 draw controls and one ground ball.
Ava Vendetti,
Brenna Todd, and
Avery Hart all scored two goals apiece. Additionally, Vendetti had three draw controls and one ground ball, Todd had three ground balls and two caused turnovers, and Hart had two ground balls and one draw control.
Andi Henry tallied five points on four assists and one goal, adding two draw controls, one caused turnover, and one ground ball.
Leah Leno scored one goal with one ground ball and one caused turnover.
Dylan Smith had an assist.
Rylee Jarvis led things on the defensive end with two caused turnovers and two ground balls, joined by
Grace Wolfe (1 CT, 2 GB) and
Holly Stoner (1 CT).
Emily Serafinchon (3-1) picked up her third win of the season, making seven saves.
