COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (2-1, 0-0 OAC) suffered their first loss of the season on Wednesday, dropping a close contest to DePauw (1-2, 0-0 NCAC) by a score of 18-15.
The Comets found themselves in an unfamiliar position early on, playing from behind after giving up two goals in the first three minutes. It took almost eight minutes for Cap to pull back even with goals coming from
Grace Osborn and
Andi Henry to make it 2-2. Unfortunately CU found themselves even further behind at the end of the quarter following three straight scores from DePauw put the game at 5-2. The Purple and White would quickly pull themselves even again at the start of the second quarter thanks to two from Osborn and one from Vendetti. However, Capital never seemed to have enough to pull ahead, staying a touch behind the Tigers until halftime, 11-9.
It wasn't until nearly the end of the third quarter that Cap finally took the opportunity at a lead, taking the first 11 minutes to put together a 4-1 run and go up 13-12. Unfortunately, even this was short-lived as DePauw put in three-straight again to end the quarter and took the lead back, 15-13 heading into the fourth quarter. The final 15 minutes came and went with little change on the scoreboard as the Comets were outscored 3-2 leading to an 18-15 loss.
