Osborn Breaks NCAA Points Record as Women’s Lax Blitzes Past Berry

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team (2-0, 0-0 OAC) had their home-opener on Sunday morning as they hosted Berry (2-1, 0-0 SAA) with the Comets coming out on fire, scoring 14-straight to start the game en route to a 21-5 win.

Senior midfielder Grace Osborn broke the NCAA Division III career points record in the process, putting up 13 from nine goals and four assists to bring her career total to 516 and counting.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital made quick work of Berry, blitzing the Vikings for 14-straight goals throughout the first 18:20. Heather Stoner got the party started as part of a 10-goal quarter for the Comets in the first, breaking the ice just 57 seconds with an assist from Ava Vendetti. Cap would add three more in the next 3:28, coming from Andi Henry (assist by Stoner), Dylan Smith (assist by Osborn), and Grace Osborn (unassisted). Osborn went on to score four more times in the quarter with one goal apiece from Avery Hart and Brenna Todd. Henry picked up three more assists with Vendetti getting one as well.

Taking a 10-0 lead into the second quarter, the Purple and White would start to slow things down and be more deliberate on offense. Regardless, they would score four more before Berry even got on the board thanks to two from Osborn and one each from Vendetti and Henry, all unassisted. When Berry finally did get on the board, they would go for three-straight to end the half at 14-3.

CU similarly slowed things down in the second half, scoring three in the third quarter and four in the fourth meanwhile holding the Vikings to just one in each remaining period. Two from Osborn and one from Stoner made up the tally for the third quarter with Stoner also getting an assist alongside Leah Leno. The four goals in the fourth quarter came via two from Amber Street – the first two of her young career – and one apiece from Henry and Vendetti, with Osborn making three assists. And thus the game came to a close with the Comets well in front, 21-5.
